Editorial standards
How we report, source, and verify the news we publish.
Last reviewed:
These are the rules we hold ourselves to. If we break one, tell us and we will fix it in the open.
Sources
Every factual claim about a product, a price, an age rule or a law comes from a source we can point to: the company's own website and help pages, an official state or federal page, or a published study. Each story lists its sources at the end.
Prices and rules change. Where we state one, we give the date we checked it.
We do not pretend to have used a product
We do not assume first-hand use. Unless a story says in plain words that the writer used a product, what you read comes from published sources. We do not publish star ratings or scores, and we do not rank products as "best" without saying what the comparison is based on.
Laws and funding
Stories about state laws and funding programs are summaries of official pages, not legal or financial advice. We link to the official page so you can read it yourself. When official pages disagree with each other, we say so.
Company pages and interviews
Directory pages are written by our team from the company's own published information. A company can claim its page and answer parents' questions. Those answers are published in the company's own words, edited only for clarity and length, and labelled as coming from the company. A person on our team reviews every change before it goes live.
Advertising and independence
Sponsors and paid placements are always labelled. A sponsor cannot buy a story, a place in the directory, or a change to what we wrote. If a link ever earns us money, the page will say so.
How we use AI
We use AI tools to help research, draft and check our work. A person reviews what we publish and is responsible for it. AI tools can be wrong, which is why every fact needs a source we can point to.
Children and privacy
We write for parents. We do not publish photos or personal details of children who are not our own, and we do not ask children for information.
Corrections
We fix errors quickly and note meaningful fixes on the page. See our corrections policy.
