About Skip School
Who writes Skip School, what we cover, and how we work.
Last reviewed:
Skip School is a guide for parents who want to use AI for learning at home. We write plain how-to guides, compare tools side by side, explain state funding programs, and compare learning tools, classes, and curriculum.
Our idea is simple. AI does the prep. Kids do the work.
Who writes it
Ashley Larkin is a writer and the face of the Skip School newsletter. She taught in public schools for six years. Today she teaches her own two kids at home for 10 to 15 hours a week with the help of AI. Her kids also attend regular school.
That mix is the point of view here. You do not have to leave school to teach at home. Many parents add learning at home on top of school, and many homeschool full time. We write for both.
What you will find here
- Guides: step by step help for using AI tools to plan lessons, practice skills and save prep time.
- Comparisons: two tools side by side, with prices, age rules and what each one is for, taken from each company's own pages.
- Funding: how state education accounts and similar programs work, with links to the official state pages.
- The directory: curriculum publishers, learning apps and AI tools, with plain facts from each company's own site.
How we handle products
We do not assume we have used a product. Unless a story says so in plain words, our facts about a product come from the company's own website, its help pages and official documents, and each story lists its sources. We do not publish star ratings.
Companies can claim their page for free and answer parents' questions in their own words. Those answers are labelled as the company's. Sponsors are always labelled as sponsors, and nobody can buy a place in the learning tools pages or a favorable story. Read more in our editorial standards.
